Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What exactly do I need as writing examples for the application?
A. For the entry examples, we would need to see at least a sample journal update written in the character you are applying with, although we're not very strict about this since we can't keep tabs on every single celebrity out there and searching through an entry for "accuracy" isn't our main concern. What we are looking for is mainly fluency in writing style, a sense of personality and not a flat read that could've been taken directly from Wikipedia or Imdb. A "first entry" is not necessary, but acceptable, although we would have to ask for more examples if your "first entry" is written in the form of an introductory post.

For the scene examples, we would need at least a reasonable segment (5-10 of your replies) that you feel represents your usual writing length, style and detail when writing in a "storybook" scene.

Q. When should I request for a hiatus?
A. Hiatuses are marked on our Taken List for absences of 2 weeks or more. For shorter durations of absences (more than just a few days but lesser than 2 weeks), please feel free to make a post to the [info]goldenbridge OOC subcommunity to let your friends know.

Q. Is there an age requirement or restriction for characters applying to the community?
A. Not at all. Within reason of course, roles of all ages are encouraged and welcomed! The D.O.B. part of the application is meant for Endeavor's Birthday Calendar, which we will continue to maintain till InsaneJournal's birthday notifications begin to work. :)

Q. I'm a little new to communities on IJ. How do I use the quick add to update my journal's friends list?
In the Client Directory and the community bulletins, you'll find two blank boxes corresponding to the titles "With Chirper" and "Without Chirper & OOC". All you have to do is enter your character's IJ username in either field of your preference, hit the button, and your friends list will automatically be updated!

Q. Are we allowed to bring more than one character into the game? Are there any particular requirements or bans?
A. Since we respect the practice of player anonymity in the community, we really have no definitive way of telling who is playing who in order to set a restriction. So yes, you may bring in another character, and no, there are no particular requirements or bans. All you'll need to do is put in another application for your new role, with new examples if you want to stay anonymous, or just a mention of who you already play in the community if you want to skip the examples. Our only extra foreword is that you have the time and dedication to develop and maintain both roles to its fullest potential, but besides that the decision is yours.

Q. I love RP, but I do have a real life. How active do I have to be to be comfortable in the community?
A. In fostering a community of mature writers and players, we more than understand that such players may have hefty real life commitments that can be expected to clash with constant RP activity, which is one of the reasons why our approach to the community's activity requirements are as relaxed as possible without compromising the activity/interest of the overall "game". Our general aim for in-character realism also acknowledges that celebrities in real life are probably busier than us meager roleplayers and wouldn't be expected to stare at a computer screen for a continuous 8 hours a day.

However, real life commitments and realism have their limits when we also have to take into account that this is a roleplaying game that is meant to be interactive, engaging and "alive". Our solution is to be welcoming of players of all types, and so far the overall pace and activity in the community has shown itself to be comfortable for our "hyper active" players/characters as well as "busier" players/characters. As moderators who wish for a successful longterm game, we encourage a friends page to "move", but at the same time we fully encourage conversation threads and comments to continue even in "older" posts. We're aware that in some communities, new comments to older posts get neglected, or players/characters feel they're too late to respond to older posts, but at Endeavor, our hope is for the contrary.

Q. How do you guys monitor activity? Will I get removed for inactivity by mistake? Why don't you guys just have an update requirement?
A. Due to the structure of our activity requirements that doesn't enforce updates as a strict requirement, it really is a pain in the ass to monitor the activity of each individual role in the community. But we don't believe in "forcing" creativity at Endeavor, and strongly feel that characters should update as and when they themselves have the inclination to, or as and when a post pertains to a character's circumstances. And so, what we do is pay closer attention to newcomers into the community (since they're most at risk of dropping out), and have semi-official checks of the friends page at 2 week intervals. Members who haven't shown signs of visible activity in those 2 weeks are sent a brief PM just to confirm their position at Endeavor, and will only be removed from the community if there is no response to the PM after a suitable time frame (generally about a week). The PM's are not meant to be nudges or to cause any alarm about the security of the role! It's just meant to make sure the community isn't housing deadweights or role hogs, and to give an allowance to members who are more heavily involved in scenes rather than visible comment activity.

However, we will also not ignore a prolonged "silence" from a role or an abuse of the structure of our activity requirements. All characters should strive to be active in some way or form amongst the "agency" and not treat the community as just a space for exhibitionism/readership of a PSL. Please be assured, as well, that on the moderation side of things, deadweights/rolehogs are continually being removed to keep the Taken List up to date!

Q. I play a(n) shy/unfriendly/obnoxious/unintelligent/obscure/etc character. Will he/she fit into the game?
A. Yes. :) At Endeavor, we try our darnedest to maintain a standard of creativity and writing ability at the point of the application process, not to be elitist or preferential, but in the hope of creating an environment where everyone in the community can have a general idea of what they can expect from each other in terms of the quality of scene writing. This also allows members of the community to acknowledge and respect all forms of a character's portrayal, without having to second guess a player's potential from the way a character conducts himself or herself. That said, we are very proud to be home to in-character capslockers, smallcapsers, jackasses, imbeciles, arrogant drunkards who purposefully refuse to respond to their comments, sleepers who are too dignified to post to the community forums, incessant ramblers, moody charmers, utter maniacs, oldies but goodies, lesser-knowns, and so on and so forth.
